Competency Renewals

A Competency Renewal Application is the formal process of revalidating an existing Firearm Competency Certificate before it expires. The renewal is mandated by the Firearms Control Act to ensure that the certificate holder continues to meet the strict legal requirements for possessing a firearm, including being a fit and proper person and remaining mentally stable.

Required Documentation

R450/application

  • 2x ID photos

  • 2x Certified copy of ID Document (front & back)

  • Certified copy of Proficiency training Certificate

  • Certified copy of Proficiency Training Statement of Results

  • Certified copy of Previous Competency Certificate issued by the SAPS

  • Certified copy of Proof of residence (electricity bill, Contract agreement, Signed letter of landlord)

  • 2x Letters of Good Character (Template will be Provided)

R92 handed in at SAPS
